TSSAA to Crown First State Champion in Flag Football for 2026

Murfreesboro to host historic two‑day tournament featuring Class A and AA brackets

The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association announced that 2026 will mark the first year it will award a state championship in flag football, moving the sport from an invitational showcase to a fully sanctioned competition.

A Milestone Tournament in Murfreesboro

The championship tournament is scheduled for May 14‑15 at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where the top Class A and Class AA programs will compete for the inaugural titles.

Class A pool play will feature schools such as Pearl‑Cohn, Jackson North Side, Coalfield and Gordonsville, while Class AA will see Overton, West Creek, Bearden and Blackman battling for bracket positions.

Bracket play begins early on May 15, with Class A matches kicking off at 10 a.m., followed by the Class AA fixtures at 11:30 a.m., leading into championship finals later in the day.

The Class A state championship game is set for 4 p.m., and the Class AA title game will follow at 6 p.m., promising a climax to a weekend of high‑energy play.

Organizers say the event not only highlights the growing popularity of flag football across the state but also sets a precedent for future expansions of the sport within the TSSAA portfolio.
