The Benet Academy girls soccer team captured a 5‑2 victory over Oswego East in the regional final, advancing to the sectional semifinals.
The match began with Oswego East striking first, building a 2‑1 lead in the opening half, but the Redwings answered with a swift equalizer before halftime.
A Late Surge Secures the Win
A late surge propelled Benet ahead, highlighted by Preslie Petersen’s two goals and Megan Bergman’s decisive strike that put the team up 3‑2.
Annie Fitzgerald added multiple goals to the tally, while Ivana Vukas’ strike tied the game at 2‑2 earlier, and Giada McGlynn’s clutch saves preserved the lead.
Goalie Meeya Widdison kept pressure at bay for Oswego East, but the Redwings’ defense, anchored by Anna Herrmann, Olivia Hamilton, Audrey Eiseman and Genevieve Burda, held firm.
The team will now travel to Naperville Central on Tuesday to face Oswego in the sectional semifinals, hoping to carry the momentum forward.
