A talent pipeline heading into Mexico
The 2026 USA Men’s U18 National Team has narrowed its pool to 19 finalists, seven of whom belong to the Class of 2027. Among those standouts are Adan Diggs and Demarcus Henry, who have each caught the eye of college recruiters as they chase a spot on the final 12‑player roster.
Their journey will lead them to Leon, Mexico, where the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup will unfold from June 1 through June 7. The Americans are slated to meet Argentina, Mexico and Brazil in Group A play, with the top two advancing directly to the semifinals on June 6 and the championship game set for June 7.
Coaching connections and scholarship offers
Head coach Anthony Grant of Dayton will guide the squad, supported by assistants Nate Oats of Alabama and Matt Langel of Colgate. The staff’s reach extends to the recruiting world, where UNC coach Michael Malone has already extended scholarship offers to both Diggs and Henry after observing their performances at recent camps.
In a recent conversation, Henry recalled a late‑night call from Malone that highlighted the Tar Heels’ admiration for his competitiveness and versatility. Diggs echoed the sentiment, describing the scholarship offer as a validation of years of hard work and a dream realized for a North Carolina native.
Beyond the personal milestones, the team carries a historic edge: the United States holds a 14‑1 record against Argentina and has never lost to Mexico in five meetings. These statistical advantages add a layer of confidence as the squad prepares for its opening game at 7:30 p.m. ET on June 1.
The tournament format sees group winners progress straight to the semifinals, while play‑in games on June 5 will determine the remaining semifinalists. With a potential 12‑0 all‑time record against Brazil on the horizon, the U.S. aims to extend its dominance before the medal games on June 7.
