The night unfolded under the bright lights of Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Mexico, where Club América and the Washington Spirit clashed in the CONCACAF Women’s Champions Cup final.
From the opening whistle, the Mexican side seized control, with Aylín Aviléz opening the scoring in the 22nd minute to put América ahead.
Just five minutes later, Geyse doubled the lead, finishing a swift counterattack that left the Spirit scrambling.
Washington answered back when Sofia Cantore struck from 35 yards out, narrowing the gap and injecting hope into the visitors.
The momentum shifted early in the second half as Rosemonde Kouassi struck twice within 35 seconds, first to level the match at 2‑2 and then to give the Spirit a 3‑2 lead in the 58th minute.
Geyse, however, was not done, equalising again in the 61st minute to set the stage for a dramatic finish.
Camberos' Moment of Glory
In the dying moments of stoppage time, captain Scarlett Camberos found the net, sealing a 5‑3 victory for Club América and capping her performance with a goal and two assists that earned her the tournament’s best‑player award.
The win underscored América’s resilience and attacking depth, while the Spirit’s comeback efforts fell just short of the trophy.
Club América’s path to the final included a 4‑1 semifinal triumph over Gotham FC, and they will now look to build on this momentum in upcoming competitions.
