The Kansas Jayhawks captured the Big 12 Tournament championship on Sunday, routing West Virginia 9‑0 in a dominant performance that marked the program’s first tournament title since 2006.
A Historic Triumph
The victory not only added a coveted conference crown to the Jayhawks’ résumé but also propelled them into the national conversation, where they are currently listed at No. 13 by D1 Baseball, while West Virginia sits at No. 9.
Head coach Dan Fitzgerald, speaking after the game, expressed deep pride in his squad’s perseverance and highlighted the collective effort that made the championship possible.
Kansas finished the regular season with 42 wins, the fourth‑most in school history, and secured both the regular‑season and tournament titles in the same year — a feat last achieved by Texas Tech in 2009.
The championship guarantees the Jayhawks a No. 1 seed in the 2026 NCAA Tournament, positioning them to host a regional beginning May 29 in Lawrence, Kansas, while a secondary site in Surprise, Arizona, will also serve as a host venue.
Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. CT, the NCAA will announce regional host sites on its social platforms, and a full bracket will be revealed Monday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.
