A Coach's Final Season
Susan Altemeier, who has steered the Newton girls soccer program for eight years — four of them as head coach — announced her resignation this week. Her tenure produced a 32‑33‑5 record and left an indelible mark on the squad.
Altemeier said she will remain a constant presence at practices and matches, offering guidance whenever the team calls for it.
She expressed a desire to have shaped each player not only as athletes but also as individuals and she will now devote more time to the Lady Berg Basketball Program.
The Newton girls soccer team is slated to meet Boone on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in a Class 2A Region 6 Quarterfinal a game that will close out Altemeier’s coaching chapter.
Looking Forward
While the sidelines will miss her voice Altemeier’s influence is expected to ripple through future seasons both on the soccer field and in the basketball arena.
