Section 1A Tournament: A Tale of Redemption
The Section 1A tournament turned tense on Tuesday as Lewiston-Altura faced Hayfield in an elimination showdown that kept the former’s championship hopes alive while marking the end of the defending champions’ run.
Hayfield drew first blood, plating all four of its runs in the opening frame, but the early lead proved fleeting as Lewiston-Altura’s bats warmed up.
The turning point arrived in the fifth inning, when Lewiston-Altura seized the lead for good, eventually pulling away to an 8-4 victory that shifted the bracket’s momentum.
Both squads entered the game after earlier defeats that dropped them into the elimination bracket; Hayfield had fallen to Southland earlier in the day, while Lewiston-Altura had been edged by NRHEG in a 10-6 loss.
With the win, Lewiston-Altura advances to the next round, but the path forward is unforgiving — they must win each remaining contest to claim the Section 1A title.
