A Historic Upset at All-Star Park
The Regis Jesuit baseball squad captured a dramatic 14-8 victory over top-seeded Arvada West in the semifinal of the 5A state tournament, a win that not only halted the Wildcats' 22-game winning streak but also earned the Raiders a place in the championship game scheduled for May 30.
Key Performances
Senior Hudson Alpert sparked the offense with a three-run home run in the seventh inning, while his teammate Jack Manthey added a three-run double that helped push the lead. Together with Greyson Glasheen they combined for five RBIs, showcasing a balanced attack that produced 16 hits across six of seven at-bats.
Building Momentum for the Finals
The Raiders have now compiled a 22-7 record in the double-elimination format and remain unbeaten in the tournament, a testament to a pitching staff that employed five arms to keep Arvada West at bay, highlighted by sophomore left-hander Finn Judge who worked 2 1/3 innings and yielded just one run.
Looking ahead, Regis Jesuit will meet Cherry Creek, the team that eliminated them in the previous two championship finals, in what promises to be a tightly contested title game on May 30 at All-Star Park. The players are focused on avoiding the heartbreak of last season’s final-day losses.
