Sewickley Academy Baseball Looks Back on a Playoff Run
The Sewickley Academy baseball program has been a fixture in the WPIAL playoffs, reaching the postseason seven times in the last nine seasons. This year, the Panthers fell in the opening round to Carmichaels, finishing the campaign with an 8‑10 record.
Coach Andrew Petruska and his staff guided a roster that featured standout performances from Austin Fritz, who led the staff with eight starts and 36 innings pitched, and Logan Bereznay, who served as the No. 2 starter. Jacob Stanislaw added 17 innings, while utility player Billy Pietragallo, a four‑year starter, contributed across multiple positions.
Seniors Pietragallo and Niko Frazzini left a mark despite limited playing time; Frazzini, in his first season with the program in 2026, posted a .400 batting average in sparse opportunities, while Pietragallo, who decided not to continue his baseball career in college, was known for his versatility.
With the graduation of key arms, the team faces a transition year, but the experience gained by younger players such as Carter Jackson, Caden Hawkins, David Young, Justin Mull and Grand Karlik offers a foundation for future growth.
