Cori Close, the winningest coach in UCLA women's basketball history, has agreed to remain with the program through the 2029‑30 season, a move that locks in her leadership for another four years.
The announcement comes just days after the Bruins captured their first NCAA championship, a 79‑51 triumph over South Carolina that etched the 2025‑26 squad into school lore.
Under Close’s guidance the team compiled a 37‑win season, establishing a new program record and a 31‑game winning streak that propelled them to back‑to‑back Final Four appearances in 2025 and 2026.
Gratitude and Vision
Close expressed deep appreciation for Chancellor Julio Frenk and Athletic Director Martin Jarmond, whose confidence allowed her to continue building a culture of excellence at UCLA.
Jarmond, in turn, highlighted Close’s character, leadership and relentless commitment to developing student‑athletes both on and off the court.
The championship run also yielded six players who were selected in the recent WNBA draft, underscoring the program’s pipeline to professional basketball.
Across 15 seasons, Close’s overall record stands at 358‑144, with ten NCAA Tournament appearances and a legacy that now includes a historic title and a sustained winning tradition.
