A New Chapter for Ruiz
High Point University announced this week that Jorge Ruiz, a seasoned assistant coach with more than eight years of experience at Weber State, will join its basketball staff as an assistant coach.
Ruiz’s journey at Weber State began as a video coordinator under head coach Randy Rahe, a role that gave him a front‑row view of the program’s inner workings.
He later served as director of basketball operations for three years before stepping onto the bench as an assistant coach for four seasons, working closely with Eric Duft and eventually taking on the additional title of assistant general manager in January.
During his tenure as assistant general manager, Ruiz collaborated with NBA star Damian Lillard, helping to shape roster decisions and strategic planning.
His most recent collaboration was with first‑year head coach Kaleb Canales, who praised Ruiz’s contributions and expressed confidence in the direction of the program.
High Point comes off a 31‑5 campaign that culminated in an NCAA Tournament victory over Wisconsin, a milestone that has set high expectations for the upcoming season.
Ruiz says he is excited to be part of a program that believes in its future, citing the synergy between Lillard, Canales and the new coaching staff as a compelling reason to join.
