The Southern Miss Golden Eagles baseball squad clinched a 6-2 victory over Troy on Tuesday, securing a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament championship for the fourth straight year.
A streak of dominance
Since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2022‑23, the Golden Eagles have captured the conference title each season, a testament to the program’s rapid rise and sustained excellence.
The offensive onslaught was led by junior slugger Joey Urban, who launched his 14th home run of the season — a three‑run shot that stretched the lead in the fifth inning. Fellow power hitter Davis Gillespie added a 418‑foot homer, his 14th of the year, further padding the scoreboard.
Relief pitching shines
Right‑hander Colby Allen entered the game in the third inning and delivered six strong innings, striking out six batters while allowing just one earned run. His composure under pressure helped preserve the lead after the early innings.
Head coach Christian Ostrander praised the team’s resilience and execution, noting that the blend of power hitting and solid pitching has become a hallmark of this Golden Eagles squad.
Looking ahead, Southern Miss will meet Louisiana in the championship game, a matchup that promises another fierce battle for the conference crown.
