A Seven‑Foot Commitment Shakes Up Arkansas Roster
Mapler Maker, the 7‑foot, 215‑pound center who was rated among the nation’s top prospects in the 2025 class, announced his commitment to the University of Arkansas on Wednesday, choosing the Razorbacks over a strong push from Memphis.
The recruit spent the past season with AUNZ Prep in Australia, where he helped the squad to a 73‑71 victory over AZ Compass Grind with a 35‑point outburst. Prior to that, he honed his game at Bella Vista Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona, and earlier in the year impressed at the U16 NCAA Basketball Academy in Memphis.
Coach John Calipari, who has been rebuilding the Razorbacks’ frontcourt, praised Maker’s upside, noting that the young big man will join a program that recently developed forward Paulo Semedo. Maker’s decision reflects both the appeal of Arkansas’ facilities and the personal connection he feels with the coaching staff.
Arkansas officials say Maker will arrive as a developmental piece, expected to grow into a more prominent role over the next few seasons. His size and mobility are seen as a perfect fit for the SEC’s increasingly athletic style of play.
The commitment has already sparked excitement among Razorbacks fans, who view the addition as a potential cornerstone for a resurgence that could return the program to the top tier of college basketball.
