Northeastern University captured its second straight Colonial Athletic Association baseball championship on Tuesday, edging Campbell University 3‑2 in a dramatic walk‑off finish here in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The decisive blow came in the bottom of the ninth when Ryan Gerety delivered a clutch RBI single, driving in the winning run after Tyler Harmony had opened the inning with a double.
Campbell had taken a 1‑0 lead earlier in the fifth when Mike Murphy launched a solo home run to break a scoreless deadlock, but the Huskies answered back in the sixth with a timely single from Harmony that knotted the game.
Andrew Wertz was the winning pitcher, tossing solid innings and later being honored as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player for his overall contributions.
The victory not only secured the automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Championship for Northeastern but also marked the Huskies’ third CAA title in the past six years, underscoring their recent dominance.
