ECU's Fifth Title Secured in Defensive Duel
East Carolina captured its fifth American Baseball Championship on May 24, 2026, defeating the University of Texas at San Antonio 1-0 in a tightly contested final held in Florida.
The game was defined by masterful defense, with both teams limiting scoring chances and relying on precise pitching to keep the opposition at bay.
ECU’s relief pitcher Ethan Norby emerged as the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after delivering eight strong innings across two relief appearances, surrendering just five hits, one earned run, and striking out twelve batters.
Joining Norby on the all‑tournament team were teammates Walker Barron, Braden Burress and Jack Herring, while UTSA contributed Drew Detlefsen, Christian Hallmark and Connor Kelley to the honors list.
Additional all‑tournament selections included UAB’s JP Head, Memphis’ Freddy Rodriguez, Rice’s Kutter‑Gage Webb and Wichita State’s Nolan Ganter, underscoring the depth of talent across the competition.
The victory adds to East Carolina’s storied championship pedigree, marking titles in 2015, 2018, 2022, 2025 and now 2026, and reinforces the program’s reputation for clutch performances on the national stage.
