A New Era for Titans Basketball
The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has named Steve Schweer as its next head coach for the men's basketball program, tapping a coach whose recent tenure at Illinois College was marked by sustained excellence and program‑building achievements.
Schweer replaces Matt Lewis, who guided the Titans for eight seasons and helped maintain the team’s competitive edge in the Midwest Conference. Lewis’s departure creates an opportunity for Schweer to imprint his own philosophy on the squad.
During his eight‑year stint at Illinois College, Schweer compiled a 114‑79 record and led the team to back‑to‑back 20‑win seasons in 2023 and 2024. The club captured its second consecutive Midwest Conference regular‑season title in 2023‑24 and earned its first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, defeating the University of Dubuque 59‑57 before falling narrowly to Washington University in St. Louis 68‑67 in the second round.
Darryl Sims, Oshkosh’s Athletic Director, expressed confidence that Schweer’s proven track record and emphasis on disciplined play will keep the Titans positioned among the conference’s elite. Sims highlighted the coach’s ability to develop talent while preserving the program’s storied tradition.
