The University of Kansas baseball program will make history this spring as it hosts an NCAA regional for the first time in school history, bringing three teams to Lawrence for a weekend of competition at Hoglund Ballpark.
The Jayhawks finished the season at 42‑16 and earned the No. 1 seed among the 64‑team field, capturing both the Big 12 regular‑season title and the conference tournament championship, a feat that propelled coach Dan Fitzgerald into the national spotlight.
A milestone for the program
Hosting the regional not only marks a first for Kansas but also reflects the program’s resurgence, drawing attention from fans, alumni and the broader college baseball community.
Travis Goff, Kansas’ director of athletics and vice chancellor, said the university is thrilled to showcase its baseball tradition on a national stage, noting that the event underscores the program’s growth under Fitzgerald’s leadership since his arrival before the 2023 season.
Local organizers expect the regional to generate significant economic activity for Lawrence, while players and coaches alike view the home‑field advantage as a tangible reward for a season defined by perseverance and excellence.
