A Celebration of Excellence
The Owensboro Red Devils gathered at Rash Stadium on May 12 for a ring ceremony that marked the culmination of a 39‑year wait for a state football championship. Surrounded by families, alumni and local officials, the team displayed their newly minted championship rings, a tangible reminder of the journey that led to this moment.
The championship was secured in December when the Red Devils defeated Pulaski County 35‑7 in the 5A title game, delivering a dominant performance that underscored the program’s resurgence. The victory not only crowned the team with its first state title since 1987 but also ignited a wave of pride throughout the Owensboro community.
14 Sports Director Max Parker was on hand to capture the pageantry, providing live updates and analysis for 14 News. His reporting highlighted the emotional significance of the win, interviewing players, coaches and fans who described the championship as a generational milestone.
Owensboro High School, the institution overseeing the program, has pledged to build on this momentum as the team looks toward future seasons. The championship has sparked renewed interest in the football program, with expectations of continued success and community engagement.
