A Strategic Review Amidst Leadership Change
The Seattle Kraken have retained Sportsology Group to conduct an external audit of the team's hockey operations, examining everything from organizational hierarchy to player development pathways and coaching methodologies. The review is being carried out in parallel with the club's own annual end‑of‑season assessment, underscoring a desire for fresh perspectives as the franchise looks to reverse a pattern of early playoff exits.
Sportsology Group, founded in 2014, has built a reputation for delivering internal assessments to a range of professional leagues, including the NBA, NFL, MLS and NHL. Their involvement signals a willingness by the Kraken's front office to leverage external expertise at a pivotal moment for the organization.
Kraken chief executive Tod Leiweke publicly disclosed the audit on April 9, the same day the team confirmed the departure of President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis. Leiweke emphasized that the audit is part of a broader effort to align the club's hockey infrastructure with its long‑term competitive goals.
The move comes as the Kraken have missed the playoffs in four of the five seasons since joining the league, a statistic that has put pressure on management to pursue innovative solutions. By commissioning a thorough, third‑party evaluation, the franchise hopes to identify systemic issues and implement targeted improvements that could finally translate into sustained on‑ice success.
