The College of Southern Idaho announced this week that Brendan Wheeler will lead its women’s basketball program starting with the 2026‑2027 campaign, taking over from longtime coach Randy Rogers, who retired after the previous season.
Wheeler arrives with a résumé that spans multiple programs, including a stint as an assistant on the women’s staff at Saint Mary’s College where the Gaels captured a WNIT berth in 2024‑25, and a recent role as men’s assistant at Cal Poly Pomona.
His coaching journey also includes a directorship of player development at Cal Baptist University, a graduate assistantship at USC, and a tenure as associate head coach at Moorpark College, where he guided the team to a Western State Conference championship in 2016.
A Vision for Culture and Competition
In comments to the athletic department, Wheeler said he is eager to build a culture of excellence, develop each student‑athlete’s potential, and position CSI as a contender in the region.
Wheeler, who is married to Taleia Gilliam and a father of two, expressed gratitude to the administration and outlined a commitment to compete at the highest level while emphasizing personal growth.
The new coach also reflected on his academic background, holding degrees in kinesiology and gerontology, which he says inform his approach to player development and leadership.
