The City of Juneau’s Recreation Department is gearing up for a summer of youth sports, and this year’s highlight is the Start Smart Soccer program, designed especially for the city’s youngest aspiring players.
Registration Details
Registration for the program will open on June 1 at noon, giving parents a limited window to secure a spot for their children.
Targeting kids between the ages of three and four, the curriculum focuses on fundamental soccer skills while emphasizing fun and teamwork.
Each session is conducted once a week and requires a parent or guardian to take part alongside the child, ensuring a supportive environment on the field.
Session Locations
The Downtown session runs from July 2 through August 13 on Thursday evenings at the turf of Juneau‑Douglas High School, providing a convenient option for families living near the city center.
The Valley session takes place from July 7 to August 11 on Tuesdays at either the Thunder Mountain Middle School turf field or the Adair Kennedy Fields, offering a second location for those in the outlying neighborhoods.
Both locations feature well‑maintained playing surfaces and are intended to accommodate families across the city, making the program accessible to a broad audience.
For detailed information about class times, fees and enrollment procedures, interested families can reach out to Recreation Coordinator MJ Goedeken at MJ.Goedeken@juneau.gov.
