Teen Charged with Arson After Charter Bus Burned
A 15‑year‑old from Winnipeg has been charged with arson after authorities say the youth deliberately set fire to a charter bus that was transporting the Kane County Cougars baseball team.
The vehicle, which was carrying players, staff and equipment for a series of games against the Winnipeg Goldeyes, was completely destroyed in the blaze, with losses estimated at roughly $425,000.
Detention and Release
Initially, two teenagers were taken into custody, but the girl was the only one ultimately charged. She was released into the care of a responsible adult after being formally charged, according to Winnipeg Police Service.
The police have not disclosed any possible motive, and the investigation remains open as detectives piece together the events leading up to the fire.
The Cougars, a Minor League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, were in Canada for a scheduled matchup with the Goldeyes when the incident occurred, highlighting the logistical challenges of cross‑border travel for minor‑league teams.
