Capstone Soccer is set to transform a vacant building on Port Royal Road in Springfield into a state‑of‑the‑art indoor soccer training facility, bringing organized youth sport opportunities to the region.
The company, known for its structured coaching programs, aims to foster athletic skill development, fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship among children and youths in a safe, supervised environment.
Zoning hearing scheduled for July 22
The Board of Zoning Appeals has placed the project on its agenda for a special permit hearing on July 22, a critical step toward turning the plans into reality.
If approved, the facility will operate from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional morning or weekend sessions offered by appointment to accommodate diverse schedules.
Designed to host up to 150 participants at full capacity, the center typically sees attendance between 80 and 100 youngsters during regular sessions, ensuring ample space for small‑group and individual coaching.
Operations will be supported by a team of five to seven full‑time employees, primarily coaches and support staff, with a total staff complement that may reach ten when part‑time personnel are included.
This would mark the third Capstone Soccer location in Northern Virginia, joining existing sites in Falls Church and Sterling, expanding the organization’s reach across the region.
Local officials and community leaders have voiced strong support for the initiative, citing the growing demand for youth sports facilities and the positive impact on health and social development.
The project reflects a broader trend of investing in indoor sports infrastructure, aligning with regional efforts to provide year‑round athletic programming for families.
