Gauchos Earn At-Large NCAA Tournament Berth, Set for Austin Regional Showdown

UC Santa Barbara enters the 2026 tournament as the No. 2 seed, led by ace pitcher Jackson Flora and guided by head coach Andrew Checketts.

The UC Santa Barbara baseball program announced Tuesday that it has earned an at-large selection to the 2026 NCAA Tournament, marking the team's 16th appearance in the national championship field.

The Gauchos will travel to Austin, Texas, where they are seeded second and will open play against Tarleton State on Friday at 3 p.m. Pacific Time at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Santa Barbara finished the regular season with a 37-16 record, sharing the Big West Regular Season Championship and posting a 38-18 overall mark that ranks among the top 25 winning percentages in Division I.

The team's pitching staff has been a cornerstone of its success, ranking inside the nation's top ten for earned run average, hits allowed per nine innings and WHIP. Leading the rotation is Jackson Flora, a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist and Dick Howser Trophy candidate, who boasts a 1.05 ERA, 124 strikeouts and two complete-game shutouts this season.

Flora's dominance has helped the Gauchos maintain a sub-2.00 ERA as a staff, a statistic that places them among the elite in the country. His ability to command the game deep into contests has been a frequent topic of praise from head coach Andrew Checketts.

A New Chapter for the Gauchos

This tournament run will mark the eighth time in the past 15 years that the Gauchos have qualified under Checketts, who guided the program to its first College World Series appearance in 2016 after a sweep of the Nashville Regional. With the tournament field now set, the Gauchos are poised to add another chapter to a storied program that continues to punch above its weight in the national landscape.
