A turbulent offseason
Georgia Tech’s basketball program is navigating a seismic shift after the sudden dismissal of head coach Damon Stoudamire, a move that triggered the departure of eight players through the transfer portal. The team’s performance last season fell short of expectations, culminating in a missed ACC tournament appearance that left fans searching for answers.
Among those who have moved on are Akai Fleming, who averaged 10.4 points and is headed to Cincinnati; Mouhammed Sylla, a highly touted freshman recovering from injury and bound for the Big 12; Jaeden Mustaf, the most improved player with 10.4 points and 4.3 rebounds, now at Indiana; and Baye Ndongo, a three‑year All‑ACC selection who will continue his career at Pittsburgh. Each of these departures signals a reshaping of the roster that will need to fill significant gaps.
Key departures and arrivals
The outgoing transfers bring a mix of experience and potential. Fleming’s scoring ability, Sylla’s defensive presence, Mustaf’s rapid improvement, and Ndongo’s ACC pedigree each address different needs for their new programs. In return, Georgia Tech retains guard Kam Craft and forward Cole Kirouac, providing continuity and leadership for the upcoming season.
The program has also brought in new faces, including Dyllan Thompson, Peyton Marshall, Eric Chatfield, and Brandon Stores, who are listed among the returning personnel. Their presence adds depth as the team adapts to a new coaching philosophy.
A new direction
Scott Cross has been appointed as the new head coach, inheriting a squad that must blend fresh talent with the remaining veterans. The transition comes at a critical juncture, as the Yellow Jackets look to rebuild competitiveness and restore confidence among fans and alumni.
