USC Upstate’s baseball squad has locked in the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Tuscaloosa Regional, a reward for capturing the Big South Conference Tournament championship.
The Spartans will open play against No. 2 seed Oklahoma State, while the top seed Alabama and fourth seed Alabama State complete the regional lineup.
A Late‑Season Surge
During the month of May the Spartans posted a 14‑2 record, climbing to a .325 team batting average, a .527 slugging percentage and a 3.77 earned‑run average, figures that placed them among the nation’s hottest clubs.
Their offensive firepower and pitching consistency have been on full display at Sewell‑Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the venue where the regional games will be contested.
Stadium Setting
Sewell‑Thomas Stadium, a historic home of Alabama baseball, will host the regional matchups beginning next week, offering a familiar backdrop for the Spartans as they chase a deep tournament run.
Postseason History
Earlier this year, USC Upstate fell in the Clemson Regional to No. 11 Clemson and (RV) Kentucky, a loss that has fueled the team’s preparation for the current bracket.
With the regional field now set, the Spartans are poised to translate their late‑season momentum into a potential upset against a formidable Oklahoma State program.
