Kansas baseball has climbed to No. 15 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, a testament to a season that has already delivered a string of historic achievements.
A sweep of conference honors
The Jayhawks capped the regular season by clinching the Big 12 regular‑season title, then followed it up with a dominant run through the conference tournament, defeating both West Virginia and Oklahoma State to secure the championship.
That sweep not only cemented Kansas as the Big 12’s premier program but also earned the team the privilege of hosting an NCAA regional in Lawrence, where the first round will unfold on May 29 at noon Central Time.
The regional field includes Northeastern, Arkansas and Missouri State, setting up a compelling opening matchup against the Huskies that will test the newly renovated Hoglund Ballpark.
Looking ahead
Coach Billy Smith and his staff have used the recent triumphs to rally recruits and fans alike, emphasizing that the team’s momentum carries into the national stage. The upcoming games will be a litmus test for the ballpark’s upgrades, which were designed to enhance fan experience and player performance.
