The Florida Gators baseball program will serve as the host for an NCAA Regional in Gainesville, entering the tournament as the No. 8 overall seed. The matchup marks the team's tenth appearance in the Men’s College World Series under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan, a milestone that underscores the program’s sustained excellence.
A cornerstone of the Gators’ prospects is a rotation anchored by SEC Pitcher of the Year Aidan King, complemented by Liam Peterson and Russell Sandefer. Reliever Jackson Barberi has also contributed, striking out 11 batters while allowing just three runs over 6 ⅔ innings in his last three outings.
The bullpen’s collective earned run average sits at 3.81, yet the team’s defensive reliability remains a concern. Florida has recorded 58 errors this season, yielding a .971 fielding percentage, with Brendan Lawson leading the squad with 12 miscues and Ethan Surowiec close behind at 10.
A potent bat lineup
Offensively, the Gators have been prolific, averaging 11.5 hits and 9.75 runs over their last 12 games. Key contributors include Caden McDonald, who bats .316 with eight doubles, six homers and 24 RBIs, and Hayden Yost, who posted a .391 average in May with 17 runs driven in and 17 scored, punctuated by seven home runs.
Despite the offensive surge, the Gators have struggled on their own diamond, dropping 13 home games this season — the most among any host team. Their only home sweeps came against Kennesaw State and South Carolina, highlighting the inconsistency of performance in front of their own fans.
