UC Irvine’s 15‑3 rout over UC Riverside
On May 9 the Anteaters traveled to the Riverside Sports Complex and secured a 15‑3 victory that showcased both patience and power.
The early going was quiet, with UCI failing to score in the first two innings while Riverside managed a single run in the opening frame after Isaiah Hernandez singled.
In the third inning the Anteaters erupted for five runs, a rally sparked by Zach Fjelstad’s timely hit and reinforced by Frankie Carney’s clutch contribution.
The onslaught continued in the fifth when Zach Crandall’s single set the stage for Auggie Gutierrez’s two‑run homer, extending the lead well beyond Riverside’s reach.
Additional runs trickled in during the seventh, cementing a 15‑3 final score that left little doubt about the Anteaters’ dominance.
A Setback the Following Day
The next afternoon the squads met again, and this time Riverside turned the tables, edging UCI 5‑3 and reminding both teams that every game writes its own story.
