Gators Eye Another Championship Run
Florida’s men’s basketball program is shaping up for a strong 2026‑27 campaign, with four of its five starters set to return and a recruiting class that could tip the balance toward another title.
Rueben Chinyelu, the Nigerian center who declared for the NBA Combine before opting to stay, will anchor the frontcourt after posting 10.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game last season. Joining him are rising senior Alex Condon, who boosted his scoring to 15.1 points per game, and sophomore Thomas Haugh, who surged to 17.1 points per game in his second year.
The Gators also await the NCAA’s clearance for Denzel Aberdeen, a former Kentucky guard who led the Wildcats in assists and ranked second in scoring before eyeing a return to Gainesville. Coach Todd Golden, now in his fifth season, has added fresh talent including Jones Lay, Artūras Butajevas and Domen Petrović, while Urban Klavžar, the SEC Sixth Man of the Year, will reprise his role as a sharpshooting senior with a 40.6% three‑point clip.
Boogie Fland, a top ball‑handling guard, is slated to return as a junior and should continue to provide playmaking depth. The blend of experience, proven production and new pieces creates a roster that many analysts view as championship‑ready.
With continuity at the core and a coaching staff that has already proven its ability to develop talent, the Gators enter the upcoming season as one of the teams to watch in the SEC and beyond.
