Regional accolades highlight Generals’ finish
Washington and Lee University’s baseball program capped a compelling 2026 campaign with two of its own earning national recognition on the D3baseball.com All‑Region teams, a testament to the squad’s steady ascent in Division III.
Freshman Alex Caywood was selected to the Second Team All‑Region and, more notably, was crowned Region 6 Rookie of the Year, underscoring his immediate impact on the club.
Caywood’s bat was relentless, posting a .425 average and a 1.195 OPS over 127 plate appearances, while his 19 doubles topped the team and placed him ninth nationally among Division III players for the category.
On the mound, senior Nathan DeWitte proved equally indispensable, compiling a .385 average at the plate and a .965 OPS while striking out 31 batters across 15 appearances, five of them starts.
The Generals concluded the season at 21‑14‑1, securing a third ODAC Tournament appearance in four years and reinforcing the program’s consistent growth within the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Both players’ achievements reflect the university’s deep baseball tradition, a legacy that stretches back to the institution’s founding in 1749, making Washington and Lee the ninth‑oldest college in the United States.
