A Fresh Face for the Hokies
Virginia Tech announced this week that Jaylen Curry has officially signed with the program, bringing a proven scorer to the roster ahead of the upcoming season. The move comes after Curry completed his junior year at Oklahoma State, where he helped the Cowboys secure a series of competitive wins.
Standing at 6‑foot‑1, Curry combines quickness with a reliable mid‑range shot. In 30 games for the Cowboys he posted a 10.1‑point average, reaching double figures on 19 occasions and delivering a career‑high 30 points in a November matchup against Nicholls. His contributions extended beyond scoring, as he also pulled down 3.2 rebounds and dished out 3.5 assists per game.
Curry’s collegiate journey began at UMass, where he developed his game before transferring to Oklahoma State. At UMass he recorded 10.5 points per game during his sophomore season and showed steady improvement throughout his tenure. The experience he gained in the Atlantic 10 and Big 12 conferences offers the Hokies additional depth and flexibility.
What This Means for Virginia Tech
Coach Mike Young, who has been guiding the program’s recent resurgence, welcomed Curry’s addition, noting that the guard’s scoring ability offers a complementary skill set for the team. The signing is seen as a strategic step to strengthen the backcourt, especially as the team prepares for a demanding schedule that includes road trips to venues such as Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Hokies’ fan base can look forward to a more dynamic style of play, with Curry’s ability to create his own shot and facilitate offense adding a new dimension. As the roster takes shape, the blend of veteran leadership and fresh talent promises to keep Virginia Tech competitive in the ACC and beyond.
