Lauren Hammersley Joins UVM Women’s Basketball Staff

Former Lafayette Assistant Brings Recruiting Expertise to Burlington

The University of Vermont women's basketball program has secured a dynamic addition to its coaching roster with the hiring of Lauren Hammersley as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. The move, announced on Tuesday, underscores the program's commitment to enhancing its recruiting pipeline while preserving the championship culture that has defined the team in recent years.

Maureen Magarity, the head coach, praised Hammersley's blend of analytical acumen and hands‑on mentorship. "Lauren brings a rare combination of recruiting savvy and player development that aligns perfectly with our vision," Magarity said in the announcement. Her endorsement highlights the strategic importance of the new role within the staff.

A Proven Track Record at Lafayette College

Hammersley's most recent experience came at Lafayette College, where she served as Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Coach. In that capacity, she played a pivotal role in engineering a playoff victory — the first for the program since the 2021‑22 season — and helped elevate the team's conference win total to six in her inaugural year.

Beyond her administrative duties, Hammersley distinguished herself on the court as a shooting specialist. During the 2022‑23 campaign she topped the Northeast 10 Conference in three‑point percentage, hitting 41.0% of her attempts from beyond the arc, a statistic that drew attention from several recruiting analysts.

Her coaching journey also includes formative years as an AAU coach and personal trainer with Crown Basketball and the Long Island Lightning. In 2021 and 2022 she co‑directed a youth basketball camp in Breezy Point, New York, where she honed her ability to mentor emerging talent and foster competitive environments.

A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, Hammersley completed her undergraduate studies at Assumption University in 2022, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology while captaining the school's women's basketball team during her senior season. She later obtained a master's degree in childhood education from Adelphi University, a background she says informs her approach to player growth and team dynamics.

Now transitioning to Burlington, Hammersley expressed enthusiasm for contributing to a program with a storied championship legacy. "I'm excited to join the University of Vermont community and help build on the success that has become a hallmark of this team," she remarked. Her focus will be on expanding the recruiting footprint while continuing to develop shooters who can stretch defenses and create scoring opportunities.
