Steve Smith, the winningest coach in Calvary Christian School baseball history, announced his resignation from both head coach and athletics director roles this week, bringing to a close a 13‑year tenure that produced six state championships.
A New Chapter Begins
The school has appointed Jay Sparks as interim athletics director while Carson Loyd will serve as interim head baseball coach, stepping in to maintain continuity during the transition.
Sparks, who previously directed the school’s boys basketball program and served as an interim AD, brings a decade‑plus track record of overseeing multiple sports initiatives.
Loyd, a veteran coach with 17 years of experience training athletes — including eight seasons at CCS — will now guide the baseball program, aiming to preserve the competitive edge established under Smith.
Community members and alumni have expressed both gratitude for Smith’s contributions and optimism that the interim leadership will steer the program toward another era of success.
