Will Davis Appointed Ninth Head Coach of Houston Baseball

Veteran coach brings championship pedigree to the Big 12 program

HOUSTON — Will Davis, a seasoned collegiate baseball strategist with a decade of head‑coaching experience, has been selected as the ninth head coach of the University of Houston’s baseball program, pending approval from the UH System Board of Regents.

Davis arrives after a distinguished tenure at Lamar University, where he guided the Cardinals to a 2026 Southland Conference Tournament Championship and a 44‑15 record that marked the program’s most successful season since 2004. Under his leadership, Lamar captured six straight victories, advanced to the College Station Regional, and posted a 27‑2 home record at Vincent‑Beck Stadium, the best winning percentage at the venue since 1993.

Championship pedigree and national recognition

The 2024 campaign saw the Cardinals finish as Southland Conference regular‑season champions with a 17‑7 league mark, sweep No. 25 Oklahoma on the road, and string together a 13‑game winning streak that placed them among the nation’s longest. Davis was honored as Southland Conference Coach of the Year, while pitcher Brooks Caple earned Pitcher of the Year honors. The team also produced 38 All‑Conference honorees and 289 career wins, cementing Davis as the winningest coach in Cardinals history.

Beyond on‑field success, Davis brings a strong recruiting pedigree. His first full recruiting class was ranked first in the Southland and 73rd nationally by Perfect Game, and over the past three years his junior‑college recruiting classes have been placed seventh, eleventh, and ninth in the country. He has coached ten players who were drafted by Major League Baseball organizations, including Ryan Snell, Brooks Caple, and Riely Hunsaker, and mentored 38 All‑Conference athletes.

Davis’s coaching journey began at LSU, where as a freshman he contributed to the Tigers’ 2004 College World Series appearance. During his LSU tenure, 48 players were drafted, six of them in the first round — among them Alex Bregman and Aaron Nola. He holds degrees in secondary education and kinesiology, and he is married to Danielle Hall, with whom he shares three children.

The university community anticipates that Davis will translate his proven track record into competitive performances in the Big 12 Conference, aiming to elevate Houston baseball to new heights.
