Darren Gallagher has been named the third head coach of the University of Wisconsin‑Oshkosh men’s soccer program, a move announced on May 26 that marks a new chapter for the Titans. The appointment comes as the university reinstated men’s soccer as an intercollegiate sport on February 16, setting the stage for a 2027 return to competition.
A Homecoming for a Titan
Gallagher, a 2004 alumnus of UW‑Oshkosh, once played a pivotal role on a team that posted a 21‑1 record and won its first 21 matches of the season. His brother, Shaun Gallagher, also starred on that historic squad, giving the new coach a personal connection to the program’s golden era.
Before returning to Wisconsin, Gallagher built a distinguished coaching résumé at Mount St. Joseph University in Ohio, where he led the women’s soccer team to a 12‑4‑4 record in 2024 and a NCAA Division III Championship appearance. His tenure included multiple conference titles and a 55‑31‑15 overall record, showcasing his ability to develop talent and sustain competitive programs.
Reviving a Legacy
Gallagher’s vision extends beyond the pitch. He plans to restore the tradition and excellence that once defined UW‑Oshkosh men’s soccer, while forging a meaningful presence in the broader Wisconsin soccer community. His approach blends modern coaching methodologies with the values that shaped his own development as a player and mentor.
Aiming for 2027
The Titans are slated to resume play in the 2027 season, a timeline that aligns with Gallagher’s strategic planning. He will oversee the program’s reintegration into the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), drawing on his experience as an assistant general manager and director of operations with the United Soccer League’s Colorado Springs Switchbacks to enhance player development and operational excellence.
