A Coach With a Distinctive Edge
Clayton State University announced this week that Carl Little will take the reins of its men’s basketball program, installing a veteran coach whose career spans both the collegiate ranks and elite military competition.
Little’s coaching journey includes stints as an assistant at Division II Columbus State, a two‑year tenure at Austin Peay where he also served as Director of Basketball Operations, and a recent role as Director of Player Development at North Carolina Central. He also guided the All‑Army Men’s Basketball Team to consecutive Armed Forces Tournament titles and helped the U.S. national squad capture gold at the 2017 Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe International Basketball Tournament.
Beyond club and college work, Little is a retired officer of the U.S. Air Force and Army, a background that informs his disciplined approach and has earned him induction into the Military Basketball Hall of Fame.
The upcoming official announcement is expected to detail a multi‑year contract and outline Little’s vision for elevating recruiting, strengthening player development, and restoring the program’s competitive edge in the Peach Belt Conference.
Fans and alumni alike are eager to see how his blend of tactical acumen and leadership will translate on the hardwood, with many anticipating a resurgence for the program in the coming seasons.
