Amilleon Huguley, a standout basketball player from LaFayette, Alabama, has officially signed to join the men's basketball program at Southern Union State Community College.
The decision to commit to Southern Union was driven by both practical and personal factors. Huguley cited the college's proximity to his hometown as a key reason, noting that the short commute would allow him to stay connected with family while pursuing a two‑year degree that aligns with his academic aspirations.
Reflecting on his high school experience, Huguley praised the mentorship he received from his coaches and teammates at LaFayette High School. He described the supportive environment as a source of daily encouragement that helped brighten his senior season.
A Promising Future
Coaches highlighted his work ethic, leadership and selflessness on the court. They noted that his ability to embrace challenges and put the team first exemplified the qualities they value in a player.
During his senior year, Huguley led the team to the state championship game, a run that culminated in Area 6 All‑Tournament honors and a selection to the 2A All‑State First Team. His contributions on the floor translated into averages of nine points, seven rebounds and three steals per game.
Beyond athletics, his academic performance earned him a place among the Top 3 students of the Class of 2026, underscoring a balanced commitment to scholarship and sport.
Huguley's next steps include balancing rigorous coursework with daily practices, as he aims to contribute immediately to the college's competitive schedule while preparing for life after basketball.
