A disturbing scene unfolded Tuesday morning at the Gurnee Motel on Green Bay Road, where a dispute escalated into a violent assault involving a baseball bat.
A Violent Morning at Gurnee Motel
The confrontation began around 10:55 a.m., when Cameron R. Scott, a 34‑year‑old local resident, entered a restricted area behind the front desk and began striking employees. Witnesses reported that Scott first punched a female staff member in the head before grabbing a metal baseball bat and swinging it at multiple workers.
Three employees — including the woman who was struck in the head — were quickly restrained by coworkers and later transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for evaluation. Scott himself was also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the struggle, though all four individuals suffered only non‑life‑threatening wounds.
First responders from the Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department arrived within minutes. Four ambulances from the fire department were dispatched, and a fifth person was examined by paramedics but declined transport. Crime scene investigators cordoned off portions of the parking lot, photographing blood spatter, a discarded G‑Shock watch, a face mask and a blood‑soaked towel left behind.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the evidence and approved two counts of aggravated battery against Scott. He is scheduled to appear at the Lake County Courthouse for a first‑appearance hearing on Wednesday morning, where further legal proceedings will be determined.
Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing, urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The incident has sparked renewed discussion about workplace safety for hospitality staff in the region.
