Carson Long Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Huntingdon College

Former Hampden‑Sydney Assistant Brings ODAC Triumphs to Alabama Institution

Huntingdon College has named Carson Long as its new head coach for the men's basketball program, tapping a proven winner who previously served as an assistant at Hampden‑Sydney College.

A Record of Excellence

A native of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, Long guided the Tigers at Hampden‑Sydney to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, capturing the ODAC Tournament Championship and finishing as runners‑up for the national title in 2024.

During his tenure, seven players earned all‑conference honors, one was named ODAC Player of the Year, and two received All‑American recognition, underscoring his ability to develop talent.

Long succeeds Zac Richards, who is transitioning to the University of Montevallo, and will inherit a program poised for continued growth.

Expressing enthusiasm for the new role, Long said he is eager to build on the foundation laid by his predecessors and to steer the program toward sustained success.

Before joining Huntingdon, Long spent a season at Ferrum College, where he served as the program’s recruiting coordinator and was noted as the youngest head assistant coach in the ODAC.
