Journee Hampton, a 6‑foot guard from Lancaster, Texas, has officially committed to the UT Arlington Lady Mavericks for the 2026‑27 season, bringing to a close a high school career that reshaped the program.
Hampton led Lancaster to its first-ever state championship in March, a triumph that culminated a three‑year run in which she averaged 16.5 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals per game.
Milestones and Honors
During her tenure, she was named all‑state and all‑region by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, earned first‑team all‑district honors and was co‑MVP of District 11‑6A. She also topped the 1,000‑point mark for her career and was selected to the academic all‑district team.
Her impact extended beyond statistics; she topped the district in points, assists, steals and blocks, underscoring a rare blend of scoring, playmaking and defensive prowess.
From Colleyville to Lancaster
Before Lancaster, Hampton spent two seasons as a varsity starter at Colleyville Heritage, where as a sophomore she posted 16.6 points, 3.4 assists and 3.1 steals per game, hinting at the talent that would later blossom.
The commitment marks a homecoming of sorts for the Lady Mavericks, who will welcome a player described by coaches as possessing an elite basketball IQ and quickness that should translate well to the collegiate game.
