A Season of Trust and Triumph
Brendan Morrissey, a coach whose reputation for building confidence and trust has defined his career, first led Milton High to back-to-back MIAA Division 2 state championships in 2022 and 2023 before making the move to Milton Academy in November 2023.
In his third season with the Mustangs, Morrissey guided the team to its inaugural Independent School League tournament championship, capping the run with a 7‑0 victory over Tabor Academy on May 17. The win featured a combined no‑hitter from junior left‑hander Jameson Gray and Asher Seelig, a performance that underscored the staff’s ability to blend talent with poise.
The championship game also produced memorable moments at the plate, including a grand slam from Jack Serafini that he described as the greatest moment of his life, and a solo shot from Will Pearce earlier in the semifinals. Senior shortstop Brandon West added a 2‑run homer that helped seal the win, while Gray’s eight strikeouts over six innings highlighted his emergence as a top prospect.
Morrissey’s philosophy centers on trust, allowing players to experiment without fear of failure. “We focus on confidence,” he says, a mantra that resonated with seniors like Pearce and juniors such as Gray, who has committed to Notre Dame and is known for a fastball that routinely sits in the 88‑89 mph range.
The roster also showcased other standouts — Reed Garrett, Deacon Evriviades, Jacob McNeil, Charlie Walker, Brian Foley and Owen McHugh — each contributing to a depth that made the season’s success possible. Morrissey notes that the satisfaction of an ISL title differs from an MIAA crown, valuing the distinct experiences each brings.
Beyond the field, the coach’s impact extends to the players’ futures, with Gray’s collegiate commitment and the collective confidence cultivated throughout the squad pointing to a bright outlook for the program moving forward.
