Spencer Curran has been appointed head coach of the Calaveras High School boys’ basketball team, succeeding Jeremy Malamed, who stepped down after a distinguished tenure.
Curran arrives with a three‑year stint overseeing the junior varsity program, and he inherits a culture shaped by the achievements of legendary coach Kraig Clifton and the foundation laid by Malamed.
Honoring a Legacy
In his first public remarks, Curran stressed that character and teamwork will sit at the heart of his coaching philosophy, insisting that the program’s standards extend beyond the scoreboard.
He will also guide his son, Cohen Curran, who is regarded as one of the top players in the Mother Lode League, while navigating the logistical challenges of a roster that includes athletes committed to football, water polo and other spring sports.
Curran pledged to allocate playing time based on effort and performance, promising fairness and transparency as the team balances athletic ambitions with academic and extracurricular commitments, and he remains committed to maintaining high expectations and striving for excellence at Calaveras High School.
