Glenvar High School is currently scouting for a new head coach for its boys basketball program after the recent departure of Hank Luton, while across the state Franklin County High School has announced Tessa Hampton as its new girls basketball head coach.
Luton’s Legacy at Glenvar
Luton stepped down after several seasons that left an imprint on the Highlanders program. School officials highlighted his dedication to student‑athletes and the broader culture of accountability, teamwork and personal growth that he cultivated on the court.
The search for his successor has drawn attention from across the Roanoke Valley, where the team aims to maintain the competitive spirit that Luton helped instill.
Hampton’s Path to Leadership
Hampton arrives with a résumé that blends collegiate experience and a deep roots in Virginia basketball. She spent recent years as an assistant at Shenandoah University, where she accumulated nearly six years of coaching experience at the college level. Prior to that, she played four seasons at Emory & Henry University and was a key member of three state championship teams at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in North Carolina.
Franklin County highlighted the hire, noting Hampton’s extensive coaching background and her deep ties to Virginia basketball.
Both moves underscore a pivotal moment for the programs as they look to build on recent successes and pursue new milestones.
