Brayden Santibanez Commits to Iowa
Brayden Santibanez, a three‑star quarterback from Collierville High School in Tennessee, announced his commitment to the University of Iowa in April, joining a young and evolving Hawkeyes quarterback corps.
During his junior season, Santibanez threw for 1,140 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 321 rushing yards, showcasing a dual‑threat skill set that blends a strong arm with the ability to extend plays on the ground. He operated alongside Cayson Stanford in a shared‑quarterback system that helped Collierville score 35 points or more in 11 of 13 games.
Collierville head coach Joe Rocconi praised his pupil’s competitive spirit and work ethic, noting that Santibanez handles adversity with poise and possesses a high ceiling. ‘He’s a competitive kid who works hard every day,’ Rocconi said, highlighting the quarterback’s 6‑foot‑3, 205‑pound frame and a 4.56‑second 40‑yard dash.
At Iowa, Santibanez will compete with returning signal‑callers such as Mark Gronowski, as well as newcomers Jimmy Sullivan, Ryan Fitzgerald and Tradon Bessinger, all of whom are expected to push each other for playing time.
A Dual‑Quarterback Future for the Hawkeyes
The addition of Santibanez could give Iowa more flexibility in its offensive scheme, offering a mobile option that complements the traditional pocket passer. His arrival is already generating buzz among fans who see the potential for a dynamic, dual‑quarterback approach.
Coaches at the University of Iowa have not shied away from experimenting with multiple quarterback formations, and Santibanez’s skill set aligns perfectly with that philosophy. By bringing a player who can both throw accurately and run with purpose, the Hawkeyes may expand their playbook in ways that keep defenses guessing.
Beyond the field, Santibanez’s commitment underscores the growing appeal of the Iowa program among top high school talent in the Midwest, a trend that could influence future recruiting pipelines.
