Darren Gallagher Returns to UW-Oshkosh as Head Men’s Soccer Coach

A veteran coach aims to restore tradition and excellence to the program

A Homecoming for a Titan

On May 26, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh announced Darren Gallagher as its third head coach for the men’s soccer program, a move that marks his return to the campus where he once wore a Titan jersey from 2001 to 2004.

During his playing years the Titans compiled a 59‑13‑6 record, and Gallagher now hopes to translate that legacy into a new era of success for the program.

A Proven Track Record

Gallagher’s coaching résumé includes stints at Ancilla College, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and the University of Illinois Springfield, but his most recent role at Mount St. Joseph University saw him guide the women’s team to three conference regular‑season titles and a historic NCAA Division III tournament appearance in 2024.

That 2024 campaign produced a 12‑4‑4 record and marked the program’s first appearance in the national championship game, a milestone Gallagher hopes to emulate on the men’s side.

He will work alongside former teammates such as his brother Shaun Gallagher and longtime mentor Toby Bares, while drawing on his experience assisting Erin Coppernoll and studying under Dr. Manohar Singh and Darryl Sims during his graduate studies.

Gallagher’s vision is to rebuild a culture of excellence, engage the local soccer community, and position UW‑Oshkosh as a competitive force in the region.
