A surprise commitment shakes the board
The announcement followed a recent visit by LSU defensive line coach Sterling Lucas to Vaughn's hometown of Oradell, New Jersey, where Lucas hoped to keep the Tigers in the conversation. The visit added a layer of intrigue to a recruitment that had already been marked as competitive.
Vaughn's timeline received a jolt when he reclassified from the 2028 cycle to the 2027 class in late April, effectively accelerating his path to college and reshaping the recruiting narrative.
Before the reclassification, he was ranked No. 5 in New Jersey and No. 25 nationally at his position by Rivals' industry rankings, underscoring the high regard for his talent.
Now slated to play his senior season at Bergen Catholic High School, Vaughn will join a Notre Dame program that is already seeing a surge in its 2027 recruiting class.
LSU's 2027 class currently sits at No. 10 nationally and No. 5 within the SEC, holding five verbal commitments as the staff continues to hunt for additional flip candidates heading into the fall.
Head coach Lane Kiffin has been vocal about prioritizing roster development while also ramping up efforts on the high-school recruiting trail, a strategy that could pay dividends if the Tigers manage to reverse some of the recent losses.
