Scott Pionk Takes the Helm of Superior High School Boys Hockey

Veteran coach brings four decades of experience to lead a program with a tradition of success

Superior High School Announces New Head Coach

Scott Pionk, a veteran of more than four decades in hockey, has been appointed head coach of the Superior High School boys program, taking over a team poised to continue its recent run of achievement.

His coaching journey spans the University of Wisconsin‑Superior, where he led the 2004‑05 season, the USHL’s Waterloo Black Hawks, the Omaha Lancers, and most recently the NAHL’s Minnesota Wilderness, before returning to the high school ranks as co‑head coach of the Proctor Rails.

Pionk expressed excitement about the new role, saying he looks forward to “continuing the tradition of success at Superior” and to nurturing the next generation of players.

Principal Ryan Haroldson praised Pionk’s “caliber and leadership,” highlighting his deep community ties and proven ability to develop talent as key reasons for the appointment.

A Legacy of Success

Haroldson added that Pionk’s extensive experience at both the collegiate and junior levels equips him to elevate the program’s competitiveness while preserving its core values.

The Superior boys hockey team will open practice in November, and the schedule includes a highly anticipated home debut against Hayward on November 20, a game that will mark the start of a new chapter for the program.
