A Deal That Signals Ambition
The Penticton Vees announced a trade with the Victoria Royals that swaps multiple future draft picks for the playing rights to forward Graham Jones and a 2026 second‑round CHL Import Draft selection. The move reflects the Vees' intent to bolster their offensive depth ahead of the upcoming season.
Jones, a 2007‑born Canadian, spent the last campaign with the Fargo Force of the USHL, where he recorded 26 goals and 26 assists over 61 games. His goal total topped the team, and his point production placed him second on the roster, underscoring his reliability as a scorer.
A Journey Through Junior Hockey
Before his USHL stint, Jones honed his skills with the Shattuck St. Mary's program from 2022 through 2025, amassing more than 200 points in that span. The highlight of his junior career came in 2025 when he helped the Shattuck St. Mary's Eagles capture the US 18U National Championship, contributing 11 points in six tournament games. He also logged 13 points in seven appearances at the Circle‑K Classic in Calgary, showcasing his ability to perform on big stages.
Vees president, head coach and general manager Fred Harbinson praised Jones' offensive skill set and competitive drive, noting that the forward's blend of speed, vision and clutch performance aligns perfectly with the team's aspirations. Harbinson emphasized that Jones will be given ample opportunity to earn a regular spot in the lineup.
The trade also signals a broader strategy by Penticton to balance immediate competitiveness with long‑term development. By parting with several future picks, the Vees demonstrate confidence that acquiring Jones now will accelerate their return to contention while still preserving a pipeline of talent through upcoming drafts.
