During his tenure at Long Island University, Ali first served as Director of Basketball Operations before transitioning to an assistant coaching role. Under his leadership the program captured both the Northeast Conference regular‑season and tournament championships, marking the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the school since 2018. He also played a pivotal role in recruiting Canadian talent, helping to diversify the roster and elevate the team's competitive edge.
Ali's coaching journey began as a graduate assistant at Florida State University under the guidance of Leonard Hamilton.
